AirAsia ABL Season 3 Game 6: Bangkok Cobras vs. Chang Thailand Slammers
Saturday 21st January 2012, tip off 3pm local time, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand.
Â
It’s a game that both teams will be
trying very hard to win, as the Bangkok Cobras will come in to the game still
looking for their first win of the season and the Chang Thailand Slammers have
just come off of a bitter loss mid-week to the Singapore Slingers.
The Slammers jump straight into the game, winning the tip-off which resulted with the Slammers’ current high-scorer Deandre Thomas putting in the first two points of the quarter. Bangkok Cobras looks to be gelling well together as a team however and fought back strong to tie the Slammers at 6-6 before taking the lead just two minutes later and stubbornly holding onto it to finish the quarter leading 21-16.
Bangkok Cobras held their lead throughout the second quarter and the Chang Thailand Slammers’ hectic travel schedule may be affecting them as this is their third game, two of which are away, in just six days. The scoreboard read Cobras 40:32 Slammers going into halftime.
The Chang Thailand Slammers proved once again why they were the champions in season two however and pushed back hard in the third quarter. Strong games from Deandre Thomas and Kenneth Walker cut the Cobras lead by as little as 3 points in this quarter but a strong performance by the Cobras’ Gentry Lewis and Michael Earl in this quarter ensured that the Cobras still kept their lead going into the final quarter at 55 to 48.
The final quarter sees both teams trying hard to get on the scoreboard with the Slammers trying hard to get the lead for the first time in the game. They came very close to overtaking their opponents but strong games from the Cobras’ Ratdech Kruatiwa and Gentry Lewis who both managed 20 points apiece helped to give the Cobras their first lead of the season over Thai compatriots and defending champions Chang Thailand Slammers.
Â
The Bangkok Cobras will head over to Singapore on the 19th of January 2012 to face the Singapore Slingers at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Chang Thailand Slammers will host the San Miguel Beermen on the same day at the Thai Japanese Association Gym in Thailand.
