VS
Saturday 28th January 2012, Tip Off 4pm local time, San Juan Gym, San Juan City, Philippines
Both AirAsia ABL season one finalists will look to bounce back from their losses last weekend. The Warriors fell to the Westports Malaysia Dragons 80-93 despite Warriors’ big three Jonathan Smith, Steven Thomas, and Mario Wuysang averaging 62.5 points per game together so far. The Warriors would also love to get scoring contributions from their local big man Rony Gunawan and sharpshooter Amin Prihantono. The two Indonesia national team players have combined for only 6 field goals from 27 attempts so far.
The Patriots were just not able to take care of the ball in their loss against San Miguel Beermen last weekend. The Patriots turned the ball over 19 times in that game. In their loss, they were outrebounded by the Beermen 32 to 42. Patriots’ center Nakiea Miller will have a tough task in keeping Warriors’ big man Steven Thomas, who is currently averaging 17.5 rebounds per game, off the board. Patriots’ other import Anthony Johnson will go head to head against Warriors’ Jonathan Smith. Both players are averaging 21 points per game coming in to the game.
Warriors’ guard Mario Wuysang will try to bring his good shooting performance to Manila. Wuysang is the leading scorer amongst the Indonesian local players with 19.5 points per game. Last year’s best local will match-up with Al Vergara. These two have played each other before in the AirAsia ABL. The last time these two met, Vergara was playing for the Slingers and Wuysang came out as a winner with 18 points over Vergara’s 13 points as the Warriors beat the Slingers back in December 14th, 2010.
