Game 12: San Miguel Beermen Notch Second Consecutive Win Against Chang Thailand Slammers

Sunday 29th January 2012, Tip off 3pm local time, Thai Japanese Association Gym, Thailand. 

Chang Thailand Slammers come into the game looking to bounce back from their loss against Thai counterparts the Bangkok Cobras last weekend while the San Miguel Beermen were the victors in the Philippine derby, besting the AirAsia Philippine Patriots.

The Slammers led for most of the quarter, which ended with the Slammers leading 19 to 15.

San Miguel Beermen stepped it up in the second quarter however and a strong performance from Darlon Johnson gave his team the lead for the first time in the game. The San Miguel Beermen were on top at halftime with 33 points to the Slammers’ 32.

The game remained tight as the Chang Thailand Slammers tried their best to regain the lead throughout the third quarter although the San Miguel Beermen stubbornly held on. Coincidentally joint point leaders for this quarter was the Slammers’ Kenneth Walker and the Beermen’s Darlon Lamar Johnson both with 18 points and 7 rebounds apiece. The Beermen held on and goes into the final period leading the Slammers 51 to 48.

Slammers still trying hard to catch up in the fourth period and managed to cut the lead down to just two points with eight minutes still left on the clock. This only prompted a resurgence by the Beermen however, who answered with an 8 point run to leave the Slammers behind. Sterling performances from Dalron Lamar Johnson and Leo Avenido sees the Beermen notch up their second consecutive win with 68 points over the Slammers’ 59.

Despite the loss, the Slammers’ Kenneth Walker had an impressive game, tying at the top of the leaderboard recording a double double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. The Beermen’s Dalron Lamar Johnson is the other joint leader with 21 points and 8 rebounds.

 

 

Both teams will hit the court again on Wednesday 1st February 2012 for their next games. Chang Thailand Slammers will travel to Mahaka Square in Indonesia to face the Indonesia Warriors and San Miguel Beermen will travel to Singapore to take on the Singapore Slingers.
