Kobe  Coach Joe

Early in January one of the new teams in AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League season, Bangkok Cobras, made headlines by hiring Joe "Jellybean" Bryant as their head coach. Joe became one of the most popular figures in the ABL. Joe played nine seasons in the National Basketball Association and he is also the father of Los Angeles Lakers' superstar Kobe Bryant.

Right now, his son Kobe, is playing for the United States in the 2012 London Olympics to chase his second gold medal in the Olympics Games. We had a chance to stop by at team USA practice in London to get Kobe's thought about his dad coaching in Thailand.

What is your thought about your dad coaching in Thailand?

My dad enjoys coaching so I think it's great for him because he gets a chance to spread the awareness of the game. He can help all the kids and all the players there to have a better understanding of the game.

Did he ever show you a clip of his Bangkok Cobras team?

He did actually. I have seen a little clip that he gave me and he gave me a couple of articles also.

Did your dad tell you that one of his players have a nickname "Bangkok Mamba"?

[Laughs] Yes, he told me about it.

Interviewed by ABL reporter/photographer Rocky Padila from London.
