As the 2013 ASEAN Basketball League getting closer, the Westports Malaysia Dragons are making big moves as they landed former Atlanta Hawks Cedric Bozeman and former University of Connecticut big man Gavin Edwards as their two imports. They have been training with the Dragons since December 4.
Bozeman, the Los Angeles native, was a star in University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). After a great college career at UCLA, Bozeman played for the Atlanta Hawks in the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 2006-2007. The 6'6'' Bozeman also had experience playing in NBA Development League, Poland, Belgium, China and Philippines. Bozeman had a chance to watch a couple of ABL games last season and he knows what to expect. "I had the chance to watch some of the ABL games and they were pretty intense. I am expecting a lot of physical play this year," says Bozeman.
On the other hand, Edwards is a 6'9'' power forward who was averaging 10.6 points and 6.5 rebounds as a senior at University of Connecticut. Edwards was playing with Peristeri GS in the Greek league last season. The 24 year-old had experience playing in the NBA Development League, Ukraine and South Korea as well. "I am still adjusting to the humidity in Malaysia but everything has been going well. ABL is a good league and I think the Dragons can win this year," says Edwards.
Dragons' head coach Ariel Vanguardia is very excited about the upcoming season. "The imports have been blending very well. I am very excited for the upcoming ABL season because this is the first time the Dragons have a former NBA player on the team. We also have a much younger team compared to previous years," says Vanguardia.
