Saturday, January 16, 2010, Brunei Darussalam – Today Brunei Barracudas went up against Satria Muda BritAma at the Brunei Indoor Stadium, Bandar Seri Begawan.
The first match was held on 8 November at the BritAma Arena, Jakarta, Indonesia and saw Satria Muda BritAma power their way thru the match to win 97 – 62 against Brunei Barracudas. Their second match on 10 January saw the Brunei Barracudas pick up the pace in the first quarter to take and early lead, but Satria Muda BritAma, not wanting to disappoint their home crowd at the BritAma Arena, quickly turned their game around in the second quarter and continued to increase their lead in the third and fourth quarters, ending the match 98 – 84 against the Barracudas.
For today’s match, Brunei Barracudas sent in imports Michael Pilgrim, Leonidaz Avenido, Reggie Larry, Francis Adriano and Celedon Camaso to go up against Satria Muda’s Nakiea Miller, Mario Wuysang, Christian Sitepu, Youbel Sondakh and Alexander Hartman.
Satria Muda BritAma’s Mario Wuysang won the jumpball against Barracudas’ Celedon Camaso, and Nakiea Miller quickly converted to give Satria Muda a 3-point lead. Not wanting to disappoint their home crowd, the Barracudas quickly equalized, and at the end of the first quarter, both teams had evened the score at 20-all. In the second quarter, Satria Muda BritAma once again took control of the match scoring at total of 22 points to lead the Barracudas 42 – 37 at half time.
The Barracudas, knowing that they needed a win today to keep their playoff hopes alive, fired up in the third quarter and quickly equalized the score after just 3 minutes. The Barracudas upped their defense, only allowing Satria Muda to score 13 points and eventually took the quarter 63 – 55 against Satria Muda.
In the fourth quarter, the Barracudas continued to hold on to their lead, and with 2:27 left to the match, had an 11-point lead against Satria Muda. With 30 seconds left , Satria Muda had manage to reduce Barracudas lead to just 6 points, but the Barracudas emerged winners at the final buzzer, taking the match 85 – 81.
A win today pushes Brunei Barracudas to 4th place, currently giving them a spot in the playoffs. The KL Dragons have two matches to go, and need to win both in order to steal the final spot in the playoffs from the Barracudas.
