Sunday, January 17, 2010, Thailand – Today saw the third and final match between the Thailand Tigers and Philippine Patriots take place at Nimibutr National Stadium, Bangkok Thailand.
The two teams first met on 25 October at the Ynares Sports Arena in Manila, Philippines where the Patriots won the match 74 – 61. The two teams met again at the same venue on 1 December, where the Patriots once again emerged winners ending the score 77 – 61.
For today’s match, the Thailand Tigers sent in Ricky Ricafuente, Axel Doruelo, Glenn Bolocon, Chaz Briggs and Attaporn Lertmalaiporn to go up against Philippine Patriots’ Gabriel Freeman, Jason Dixon, Robert Wainwright, Warren Ybanez and John Alcaraz.
Philippine Patriots Jason Dixon won the jumpball against Tigers’ Attaporn Lertmalaiporn and Patriots Gabriel Freeman quickly opened scoring for the Patriots with an early 3 point shot. The Patriots continued to push forward, taking the first quarter 21 – 17. In the second quarter, the Thailand Tigers scored 28 points and reduced the Patriots lead to just 1 point, ending 45 – 46 at half time.
The two teams were once again neck-in-neck during the third quarter, and with 5:50 left to the quarter, the Thailand Tigers succeeded in taking a 7 point lead against the Patriots. The Patriots soon turned the game around, and at the end of the third quarter, were once again holding a 1 point lead against the Tigers with a score of 69 – 68.
The Philippine Patriots, wanting to turn their game around and end their two match losing streak, continued to lead the Thailand Tigers in the fourth quarter. At the final buzzer, the Patriots emerged winners, taking the match 91 – 87 against the Thailand Tigers.
