Friday, December 04, 2009, – Singapore Slingers recently partnered with Greenfields Milk to promote basketball and a healthy lifestyle through the Slingers’ Schools Program, a vital development program in which the Singapore Slingers will conduct free school clinics and community promotions with local and private schools around Singapore.
Within three years, Singapore Slingers have already managed to conduct over 500 free basketball clinics and over 35,000 participants have been involved. The School Program allows children to meet and interact with professional basketball players and learn some valuable t ips about the game.
Singapore Slingers believes that local talent is important and since participating in the ASEAN Basketball League, the Slingers have changed their roster to include 8 local players. The Slingers also ensure that their players understand the significance of developing the sport in Singapore on a grassroots level and to nurture young talent with the long term goal of increase the technical skill of young players to form a stron g local base.
Local stars Hong Wei Jian, Pathman and Desmond Oh are more than happy to take part. They believe in training and developing potential basketball players and passing on what they have learned en-route to becoming professionals and Wei Jian and Pathman are also working with local basketball clubs and schools in their own time on top of the Slingers’ Schools Program.
