Wednesday, December 16, 2009, Malaysia – Round 11 of the ASEAN Basketball League starts this Thursday. Also taking place is the rescheduled Round 4 match between the Philippine Patriots and Brunei Barracudas.
The much-awaited rematch between the Singapore Slingers and Thailand Tigers will take place on 17 December, 8.00pm at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Their previous meet on 7 December saw the Singapore Slingers fall 65 - 62 to the Thailand Tigers in a hard fought match.
The Singapore Slingers, who have just six more matches to go before the playoffs, will need to get back on winning track after losing their last three matches. The Slingers are currently third in the League Standings with the Brunei Barracudas just one point behind.
The Thailand Tigers on the other hand will be looking to stage a comeback after losing 69 – 88 to the KL Dragons at MABA Stadium, Malaysia on 13 December. a win is much needed for the Thailand Tigers as they are currently in sixth place which will deny them a place in the playoffs.
Another match to look out for will be the Philippine Patriots versus KL Dragons, 4.00pm at the Ynares Stadium, Manila, Philippines on 19 December. The Patriots, who lost their previous match 70 – 95 to the Brunei Barracudas, are looking to get back on track and keep their number one position in the League Standings, especially with Satria Muda BritAma just one point behind.
The Patriots were weakened by the absence of two key players, Nonoy Baclao and Elmer Espiritu during the 13 December match against Brunei Barracudas. Nonoy Baclao who was honoring a previous commitment to play for Ateneo Blue Eagles in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) Finals, as well as the injured Elmer Espiritu who was nursing a broken cheek bone, will both be back to face the KL Dragons.
The KL Dragons are training hard for the much awaited rematch after previously losing 63 – 73 to the Patriots at MABA Stadium, Malaysia on 15 November. Team Manager Mr Wee Cheong Phor and Coach Goh Cheng Huat both agreed that the KL Dragons are ready to breath fire against the Patriots at their home ground this coming weekend.
On 20 December, the Thailand Tigers will be playing again, this time against Satria Muda BritAma. Satria Muda BritAma, coming strong from their win against Singapore Slingers on 12 December, will be looking for their sixth win, and a chance to topple the Philippine Patriots in the League Standings.
The Round 4 match against the Philippine Patriots and Brunei Barracudas, which was postponed due to Typhoon Santi, has been rescheduled to 21 December, 6.00pm. The match, which will be played at the Ynares Sports Arena, Manila, Philippines is a chance for the Patriots to have their revenge against the Barracudas with the support of their home crowd.
